Press release
24 march 2019
President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, considers that, through the statements she has delivered today regarding the relocation of the Embassy of Romania to Jerusalem, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă once again proves completely ignorant with regard to foreign affairs and to taking decisions that are relevant for the Romanian state. By assuming a decision that is not the Government’s responsibility exclusivelly, as she claims, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă rushes to deliver public announcements with no decision in this respect having been previously taken.
The position of the President of Romania on this topic was clearly and repeatedly stated and will not be reiterated again.
The decision to move the Embassy of Romania from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will be taken only after the ongoing analysis has been finalised and only with the approval of all assigned institutions of foreign affairs and national security. The final decision rests with the President of Romania, who, according to the Constitution, is empowered to take decisions on foreign affairs and is our country’s representative abroad.
To date, the Presidential Administration has not received the analysis the Government has repeatedly affirmed it would send.
President Klaus Iohannis once again calls for the Government and the Prime Minister to prove reponsibility in the act of governing.
